![]() They forced the situation to get them to the liquor store. By the way, it had to be current, since they were drinking Bud Light Lime (it first came out in 2008). This isn’t the 1990’s right something current would be nice, and an actor who matches the timeframe. Seriously, we are going back to a man drinking and leaving his kids because of Nam. So was Tim Allen 12 when he went to Vietnam. So they never really marked the year of this film, so when they do this I assume, current year. What I Didn’t Like: There was no comedy here. The similarities of their problems was a nice touch. There was at one point where both Eric and Larry are in rough spots the night before the liquor store, before they know they are father and son (well except everyone watching this movie). What I Liked: When the movie finally ended!!! Through a series events the next day, Eric finds himself in a liquor store in a hold off with the police on Christmas Eve, with his father, Carl, and 3 other people. That same night, Eric is arrested by Carl Hooker (Vincent D’Onoforio) who is a tired drunk deputy and his partner Billy Calhoun (Dax Shepherd). He mets his father, Larry Roth (Tim Allen) who pretends to be someone else. Plot: Eric Roth (Luke Grimes) comes to El Camino, NV to search for his father. My rating may reflect a difference in expectations, I was expecting a comedy (even a dark comedy should make you smile) and I watched a drama. Seriously, this is a drama about some very sad people. Well the crime is it was made, and the comedy is I watched it. It is listed on IMDB as comedy, crime film. I had some free time on my hands so what the heck, how bad can it be? Again, my optimism overpowered logic and the history of Netflix, and I watched this. Now Eric must prove his innocence while doing his best to ensure no one is shot and killed by the other bumbling police officers outside.Had seen this movie on Netflix many moons ago. This eventually ends up in a situation where Eric is in a liquor store with "Bukowski," a young woman and her son, Officer Hooker, and the liquor store owner - he's believed to be holed up with hostages, a story stoked by the police and an opportunistic news reporter (Jessica Alba). While Eric is trying to get back to his hotel, he ends up being pursued by a very drunk Officer Hooker, who shoots at Eric's car while in pursuit. Unsure of how to handle the situation, Calhoun simply lets Eric go. Out of control, Hooker beats up Eric with a billy club. On the way, "Charles" rolls a joint and leaves his bag of marijuana in Eric's car, where it will be found by the two police officers who later search his car and take Eric to jail. ![]() ![]() Meanwhile, Roth goes to the address on the letter, where he meets a drunken foul-mouthed older man (Tim Allen) who introduces himself as "Charles Bukowski." "Charles" claims to know where Eric's father is, but will only tell if they go to a bar and get drinks. Almost immediately upon arrival, Roth is suspected of running a meth lab by two police officers - Billy Calhoun (Dax Shepherd), the inept nephew of the police chief (Kurtwood Smith), and the other, Carl Hooker (Vincent D'Onofrio), an alcoholic known for making questionable arrests. In EL CAMINO CHRISTMAS, Eric Roth (Luke Grimes) is on a road trip out west from Missouri, in search of the father he never knew, with only an old letter and an address that leads him to a rural Nevada town. ![]()
