(Probably asking for too much, but what would be really incredible is if the column widths would adjust in real-time while inputting text in the various columns. I'm looking for a Writer feature that will make these adjustments for me, since it would have the ability to make the right margin precisely the same width longer than each column's widest cell rather than me eyeballing it. I have manually adjusted it so that each column has about a quarter inch of margin on the right side according to the width of that column's widest cell. Notice the sample table I've attached this time. Is there a way to have the columns do sort of the same thing but with more of a margin on the left and/or right side within each column so that the columns' contents aren't so bunched up? However, it's actually too narrow for my taste. I just followed the recommendation to highlight an individual column and then select "Optimal Width." That resulted in the column being made pretty much as narrow as possible in relation to its contents. Sample-1.pdf (20.73 KiB) Downloaded 99 times Is there a way to make OpenOffice perform these proportional width adjustments automatically and with some amount of reasonableness without the user having to manually adjust the individual column widths? I have tried the Optimal Column Width feature, but that causes the words within the columns to be way, way too close together, almost to the point of touching Meanwhile, for the heading of the "LongestColumnTitle" column, OpenOffice has decided to make that column heading span two lines within that cell even though there is plenty of room for it to be adjusted to take up just one line. In the example that I uploaded, the "Title" column is very narrow and has way too much blank space to the right side of its text. then try to open it to other unit and see if it works. Then Review Tab /Protect/Protect Sheet and choose the appropriate options you want to lock. I don't want all of the columns to be the same width, however, since the widths of the contents varies from column to column. Choose Format/Cells and in the Protection tab select Unlock. Is there a feature within OpenOffice that will automatically and evenly adjust the widths of all columns in relation to the width of each column's contents? This is only in the cells containing data imported from the broker.I'm trying to make a simple table, and I have tried many of the different options under the "Table" menu, but I just can't find what I'm looking for. Those cells all show a red triangle/arrow-symbol that means there is hidden data in that cell. This is where the problem lies - as this resize occurs, I get a column-width for the 9 imported columns that doesn't follow any obvious logic. Narrow columns SHOULD go back to the correct size, and wider columns SHOULD show all the relevant data. When I finish each task, I resize the whole spreadsheet back to having all columns the optimum viewing width, by clicking in the top-left-corner cell and then double-clicking on any of the column width divider lines. For each formula, and there are more than 20, it involves a different combination of re-sizing to visually compare cells. This allows me to see the data in various columns that are not adjacent. In creating/applying my formulae I need to scroll across and down quite a bit, and I usually solve this by re-sizing the columns (by highlighting the column headings, and dragging the column-width to be either really small or hidden). I then move this data into the relevant columns, and apply the formulae I need to double-check broker accuracy and also to summarize the trading results. Change the column width to the value you desire by going to Format > Column > Width. Open LibreOffice and click Spreadsheet to create a new spreadsheet. Each week I import 9 columns of data from the website of my online broker, via a cut-and paste from their website into this spreadsheet. The default column width can be changed by using a template. The spreadsheet is quite large, currently horizontally to col BN and vertically to row 4239. I use Calc for summary calculations for my Forex trading. Actually the biggest annoyance I have is that I can't think of the right words to describe the problem correctly! I can't find where to look for this answer, but surely I'm not the first to annoyed by my 'problem'.
